"Speak to me in a language I can hear, humor me before I have to go..." Sigh. I loved that album, but I'm glad my day did not include 'Mellon Collie' or 'the Infinite Sadness.' It was awesome. And there was a lot of food involved.
I was in Missouri over the weekend and spent Sunday night at my grandparents' house. Thank all that is holy, I was finally able to sleep in for a bit. AND I didn't have to go to work. I got up around 9 and had a cup of tea while my grandparents discussed plans for their yard and garden this year. My grandma insisted on taking me shopping and had an outdoor table and chair set picked out for me but it was too big for our deck. I opted instead for a black dress from the clearance rack at Hip Chick Boutique, and good thing too. Minutes later I had a text from Chris that said, 'Be home and ready to roll by 6. Dress nice!'
After sneaking a bit of my grandpa's homemade green beans and red potatoes, I met my mom, grandma, and one sister for lunch at Beth's Tea Room. I had Beth's Salad and it was awesome!
I hugged my family goodbye in the parking lot (quickly - it was raining and cold!), and drove three hours home. My sneaky husband was waiting for me with a birthday cake that he baked himself, candles, a card, and the new Johnny Cash album. Perfect! Gold star! He did something similar on my 23rd birthday and it was one of my favorites. ♥
Our surprise dinner reservation was at The Melting Pot. I used to go to the St. Louis Melting Pot with my friends in college, but I hadn't been there in over ten years. So awesome! Such a good boy! We just did the cheese and dessert fondues and it was perfect.
Since I didn't have to be at work on Tuesday either, I voted for a wine stop on the way home. I had a few picked out, but got distracted on my way to check out. I stumbled into some Miranda Lambert wine! Happy birthday to me! We went to her winery several years ago (a blog post about it is on my to do list!) and last I knew, her wine was illegal in Oklahoma. Seriously. You can't even have it shipped to Oklahoma from her website.
In any case, I did a happy dance in my heels, added the bottles to a redneck wine chiller (ice in a stock pot), and enjoyed some Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Belle.
A great day, kids! Welcome thirty-three.
